Philanthropy Action

News & Commentary

Philanthropy Action extends it congratulations to Esther Duflo, MIT economist and co-director of the Jameel Latif Poverty Action Lab at MIT, who today was awarded a MacArthur Foundation “genius” award for her work on identifying effective poverty interventions. Duflo has made significant contributions to the field with research on incentives that nudge the poor to take positive actions, such as getting their children immunized or showing up for work. Her most recent study on the impact of microfinance has generated significant buzz in the blogosphere. Look here for our full interview on these subjects with Duflo and MIT-colleague Abhijit Banerjee.
